Arts for Healing’s PlayStudio is a summer program that offers creative arts experiences for young children and adolescents with special needs. Our program is designed to let participants explore and discover themselves and the world around them through the arts in enriching and stimulating improvisational workshops. Communication and relationship skills are developed and enhanced in a supportive and creative environment. PlayStudio is a dynamic and refreshing summertime alternative for people with special needs. See our Program Calendar for dates and times.

DiscoverMe (birth to 3 years old) is an experiential music and art workshop in which parent and child engage in creative activity. A child’s self-awareness and natural curiosity are activated through singing, playing instruments and making art interactively with a parent. In a small group setting, parents explore and discover new ways of bringing creative arts play into their relationship with their children. Being immersed in music and art experiences enhances the child’s cognitive, physical and emotional development, while nurturing the vital and unique bond between parent and child.

ArtsExpress (5 to 15 years old) is a comprehensive creative arts “journey” through music, art, drama, and yoga-play workshops designed to foster self-expression, self-confidence, and peer relationship-building. Through collaboration and creating art and music in a small and dynamic group setting, the participants further develop social skills, as well as cognitive, physical and emotional resources. The highly interactive and creative process of these workshops is complemented by enriching and exciting visits by professionals in the arts: storytellers, sculptors, drummers, karate instructors, and musical performers.

Each child will have the support and one-to-one attention of a volunteer “buddy” throughout the program. A nurse will be on the premises at all times.

The experiential workshops are designed to support a young person’s:

  • Language development
  • Sensory integration
  • Social skills
  • Self-expression
  • Relationship-building
  • Self-confidence
  • Joy in life!
